Using Serum Index to Moniter Serum Specimen's Appearance and Its Clinical Application

Objective: The extent of Lipemic,Hemolytic and Icteric of serum sample could be determinated more precisely by measurement of its serum index value,which expressed as the three indices L,H and I. The normal reference range of serum index had been established in our laboratory and applied in the Internal quality control.Methods Using the serum index determination function provided by Hitachi-7020 automatic chemistry analyz-er,and setting parameters according to our experimental condition,three indices of L,H and I were measured. The serum samples were collected from healthy persons screened by health examination of the local area. The experi-mental data was statistically managed and the normal reference range of the L,H and I which was suitable for our laboratory had been getten. The three indices items were printed in our experimental report along with chemistry determination results of serum sample. Result After the determination of 1100 healthy person's serum sample,the normal reference range of the three indices was established: L51,H44 and I75. Conclusion Three in-dices of serum index items cound be used in monitoring serum sample's appearance,it would facilitate the medical laboratory staff greatly,and it played an important role in checking the experimental results and explaining the results to the clinical doctor. Index of H could also be used in the determination of plasma hemoglobin and I index could be used in the determination of serum total-bilirubin. It was an innovation of the experimental method and a worthwhile method,which deserved more careful study and wide-spread use.
