Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression and significance of Survivin protein and CD34 in colorectal carcinoma. Methods:The expression of Survivin and CD34 in normal mucosa, colorectal adenoma and adenocarcinoma were detected by immunohistochemical method.Microvessel density(MVD) was counted based on CD34 marked endothelial cells of microvessels. Results:Survivin protein was undetectable in normal colorectal mucosa, while the expression rates in adenoma and adenocarcinoma were 62.5% and 70.9% respectively. The expression of Survivin in adenoma and in adenocarcinoma was significantly higher than that in normal mucosa.MVD were 21.55±10.61 in colorectal adenoma,28.89±10.47 in colorectal adenocarcinoma,8.23±2.77 in normal mucosa. There were significant differences of CD34 expression in colorectal adenoma, colorectal adenocarcinoma, normal mucosa. The overexpression of Survivin protein and CD34 was related to tumor depth and lymph node metastasis. The expression of Survivin protein was correlated positively with MVD.Conclusion:Survivin protein plays an important role in the onset and development of colorectal adenocarcinoma by inhibiting the apoptosis of cancer cells and inducing the proliferation of microvessels.Survivin protein and CD34 may be the parameters for prognosis in colorectal carcinoma.
