Expression of survivin and its significance in Colorectal Carcinoma

Abstract

Objective:To detect the expression of survivin in colorectal carcinoma and elucidate its function in colorectal carcinoma.Methods: A total of 62 colorectal carcinoma specimens and 25 normal colorectal tissues were obtained.RT-PCR was used to measure survivin mRNA levels;Immunohistochemistry method was used to test protein expression of survivin.Results: The expression rate of survivin mRNA in tumor tissues(58.1%,36/62) was significantly higher than that in normal tissues(0,0/25).Survivin protein was detected in 35 of 62(56.4 %) colorectal carcinoma tissues.In contrast,no expression of survivin in normal colorectal tissues was detected.Conclusion:Overexpression of survivin is common in colorectal carcinoma.Survivin may play an important role in colorectal carcinoma and is associated with prognosis.
