Abstract

[Objective] To investigate the expression of survivin and its relationship with the expression of bcl-2 and p53 genes in colorectal carcinoma.[Methods]The expression of survivin in normal mucosa, hyperplastic polyp, colorectal adenoma and adenocarcinoma, and the expression of bcl-2 and p53 in colorectal adenocarcinoma were detected by immunohistochemical method.[Results]Survivin was undetectable in normal colorectal mucosa, while the expression rate in hyperplastic polyp, adenoma and adenocarcinoma was 16.7%,62.5% and 70.9% respectively. The expression of survivin in adenoma and adenocarcinoma was significantly higher than that in hyperplastic polyp and in normal mucosa(P0.01).The overexpression of survivin was correlated to tumor depth and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).The expression of survivin correlated with p53,bcl-2 expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma(P0.05).[Conclusions]The high expression of survivin in colorectal carcinoma tissue suggests that it participates in the genesis and development of colorectal carcinoma and can used as an important prognostic index.Survivin,up-regulation of bcl-2 gene and deactivation of p53 may play a synergetic role in the carcinogenesis of colorectal carcinoma.
