Four Debates on the Annotation of Ancient Books

the thesis is to debate on four misses from the punctuation and annotation of the ancient books in Pre-Qin Period:(1)Mr.Chen Guying's annotation of the book Zhuangzi(Chapter 4: Man in the World,Associated with other Men) mistook Li(oak-tree) as a god's She(altar).Actually She itself is the god of soil.And there was no ritual of offering sacrifices to a tree regarded as a symbol of the god of soil in ancient time.(2)Mr.Guo Yu mistakenly punctuated a sentence in The Great Treatise(sectionⅰ),a chapter from the book Zhouyi,which explains the text pertaining to the nine at the top line in the Ch'ien Hexagram.This is caused by the misunderstanding of the exact meaning of the six lines' positions in the Hexagrams.(3)Mr.Yang Bojun's explanation of a sentence from Zhuan(Chapter: Duke Wen' second year) in his work Annotation to Chun Qiu Zuo Zhuan mistook King Diyi as the grandfather of Song State's founder while King Li Wang as that of Zheng State's.In fact,King Diyi and King Li Wang are not the founders' grandfathers but are given birth by them.(4)The same book by Mr.Yang quoted Huang Chengji's wrong explanation as the following: the 'Pei'(fringe at the end of the big flag used in wars) out,then pulling the 'Heng'(a wooden part used to tie the yoke)out(Chapter: Duke Xuan's twelfth year).Heng is a key component in ancient wars,which must not be pulled out.
