Abstract
On the specific meaning of Wenzuin Shangshu: Shun Dictionaryas applied to finally resorting to Wenzuthere has been no agreement among annotators of all eras. Generally speaking there are two types of explanation: one holds that Wenzuis the forefather of Yao,and the other assumes thatWenzuis neither the forefather nor a temple for services to ancestors,but a temple for services to heavenor gods and reports to Heavenly King. According to Shangshu —a Chinese classic,Zu of Wenzu should mean temple,and Wenof Wenzumay mean startor an honorary title for a deceased king in Upper Ancient Times.
