Efficiency of transvaginal sonography in the diagnosis of tubal pregnancy

Objective To assess the accuracy of transvaginal sonographic diagnosis of tubal pregnancy.Methods A retrospective study of transvaginal sonographic findings and serum β HCG level of 54 patients operated for tubal pregnancy.Results Transvaginal sonographic findings established the diagnosis of tubal pregnancy in 52 patients.Adnexal masses,the direct manifestation of tubal pregnancy ,can be classified into two types in trasvaginal sonographic: ring like or non specific.The ultrasonic features of adnexal masses had no relationship with serum β HCG level.Conclusions Transvaginal sonography is effective in the diagnosis of tubal pregnancy.
