Abstract

Objective To explore the antioxidant effect of grape seed extract on human body. Methods Totally 106 healthy volunteers aged from 45 to 65 years were divided into test group and control group randomly according to the content of serum MDA.The volunteers in test group were given the grape seed extract capsules for 180 days. The content of MDA,the activities of SOD and GSH-Px,and the indexes of safety were determined at the end of 180 days. Results The content of serum MDA in test group was decreased significantly, with the decreasing rate of 5.91%.The activity of SOD in test group was increased significantly, with the increasing rate of 17.41%.There were statistically significant differences in the activity of SOD between test group and control group,as well as in test group between before and after experiment (P0.05).The activity of GSH-Px in test group was increased significantly, with the increasing rate of 7.37%.All kinds of indexes of safety did not change before and after the experiment. Conclusions Grape seed extract has the antioxidant effect on human body.
