Observation of benazepril and low-dose amiodarone on patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Benazepril combined with low-dose Amiodarone in patients with idiopathic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation(PAF).Method:41 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation(PAF)were divided into control group(Amiodarone group,n= 21).and treatment group(Amiodarone plus benazepril n=20)randomly.Two groups had been followed up for one year.The sinus rhythm maintenance and left atrial diameter(LAD)were measured before and after treatment in the two groups.Result:The difference of LAD was significant(P0.05)between the two groups before and at the 12th month after treatment.The maintenance rate of sinus rhythm in control group was lower,but not significant,than that of treatment group at the 2th,4th,6th,8th month..However,there were significant differences at 10th,12th month(P0.05)after treatment.Conclusion:The combination of Benazepril and Amiodarone is more effective than Amiodarone alone for sinus rhythm maintenance..Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors may delay the enlargement of left atrium.
