Abstract

Objective To study the clinical value of interventional therapy for malignant obstructive jaundice. Methods Total of 31 cases patients with malignant obstructive jaundice were treated by percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography and drainage (PTCD 17 cases) or metallic stent insertion (14 cases),all of cases were also treated by Hepatic artery infusing chemotherapy or embolization after PTCD and metallic stent insertion. Results Total bilirubin value was decreased in all cases post PTCD or stent inserton. Two cases died of none procedure relation within 2 month after the precedure. Two cases developed recurrent jaundice caused by stent re occluded.Follow up in all cases, the mean survival period was 9 months and the longest survival period was 26 months. Conclusion Interventional therapy was effective and also prolong the patients life in the treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice.
