Abstract
Objective To evaluate the prediction significance of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) in the progress of acute cerebral infarction. Methods Forty acute ischemic stroke patients were enrolled, including 20 patients in stable cerebral infarction group, and 20 patients in progressive cerebral infarction group. The serum specimens were gathered for MMP-9 determination with ELISA on admission to define their potential roles in the progressive cerebral infarction. Results Serum MMP-9 levels in the progressive cerebral infarction group were higher than those in the stable cerebral infarction group. The progressive ratio in the serum MMP-9140 ng/mL was significantly higher than that in the serum MMP-9 ≤140 ng/mL.Conclusion MMP-9 levels on admission would be an important evaluating index of the progress of acute cerebral infarction.
