Abstract
Objective: To study the effect of oat glucan (Oglu) on peristalsis and amylase activity of small intestine. Method: The pushing rate of food in small intestine was test in mice and the contraction of smooth muscle of small intestine was tested in rats and in vitro. The inhibition of the hydrolytic activity of amylase by Oglu was tested in vitro. Results: The pushing rate of food and the frequency and amplitude of peristalsis in small intestine were increased significantly in Oglu group. Oglu could restrain the hydrolytic ability of amylase. Conclusion:Oat glucan can reduce sugar absorption by restraining the amylase activity and increasing peristalsis of small intestine.
