Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of ureteroscopy for the treatment of ureteric calculi during pregan-cy.Methods The clinical data including diagnosis, outcomes of surgery from 37 patients with ureteric calculi during pregancy by ureteroscopy were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the urgent symptoms in 37 cases were relieved after treatment.37 cases were diagnosed by ultrasonography at first.32 cases underwent ureteroscopic lithotripsy, the stone free rate of initial treatment was 86.49%(32 of 37).6 cases with residual stones were treated by double-J stent, and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL)was per-formed successfully in the post partum period.5 cases were drained by placing double-J stent. No abortion, premature delivery or complications such as ureter perforation occurred. Conclusions Ultrasonography is recommended as the first choice of diagnosis for ureteric calculi during pregancy.Patients with ureteric calculi during pregancy treated by ureteroscopic lithotripsy was effective and safe.
