Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ureteroscopy for the treatment of ureteric stones during pregnancy. Methods:The clinical data including diagnosis, outcomes of surgery from 26 patients with ureteric calculi during pregnancy by ureteroscopy were analyzed retrospectively.26 pregnant women with ureteric stones were terated by ureteroscopy when the fetus was at 11-36 weeks of gestation. The ureteric calculi were 6-14 mm in greatest dimension.6 cases had calculi in upper ureter,8 in middle ureter and 12 in lower ureter.24 underwent ureteruscopic lithotripsv;2 case were drained by placing Double-J cathete. Results:All the urgent symptoms in 26 cases were relieved after treatment. The stone free rate of initial treatment was 83.3%(20 of 24).Six cases with residual stones were treated by Double-J catheters, and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL) was performed successfully in the post partum period. No abortion, premature delivery or complications such as ureter perforation occurred. Conclusions:For pregnant women with ureteric calculi retrograde intra-ureteral cannula and ureteroscopic treatment are safe and effective.
