Abstract
Objective To investigate the quantitative expression of VEGF in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder and to evaluate the relationship between VEGF and the biological behavior of transitional cell carcinoma of bladder(BTCC).Methods Samples of tumor and normal mucosa were taken from 40 patients and 20 cases of normal bladder tissue respectively.The percentage of VEGF positive cells in these samples were examined by flow cytometry.Results The percentage of VEGF positive cells was(34.50±15.57)% in tumor tissue and(13.30±6.23)% in normal tissue(P0.01).The positive cells were noted in(27.7±10.76)% of Tis~T1 and(48.29±13.77)% of T2~T4,and(22.43±8.15)% of G1,(35.01±9.95)% of G2,and(53.09±12.39)% of G3 tumor tissue.With the progression of clinical stage and grade,the positive rate of VEGF expression increased(P0.01).Conclusions Quantitative examination of VEGF expression can be one method to evaluate the biological behavior of BTCC.
