Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between serum testosterone (T) level and coronary heart disease (CHD) in men. Methods Totally 568 male patients who received coronary angiography were divided into control group (n=175) and CHD group (n=393). According to the number of narrowed coronary arteries,the patients in CHD group were further divided into three groups: single vessel group (n=112),double-vessel group (n=144) and triple-vessel group (n=137). The levels of serum testosterone (T),uric acid (UA),total cholesterol (TC),triacylglycerol (TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured. Results The level of serum testosterone was significantly lower in CHD group than that in the control group ([13.21±6.00] nmol/L vs. [16.37±6.32] nmol/L,P0.05). The serum testosterone levels in the single vessel group,double-vessel group and triple-vessel group were (13.65±5.75),(13.18±7.60),and (12.87±4.42) nmol/L,respectively,all significantly lower than that of the control group (P0.05). The testosterone level was negatively correlated with the severity of the coronary artery lesion (r=-0.528,P=0.018). Conclusion The serum testosterone level is decreased in male CHD patients,and the level is negatively correlation with the severity of coronary artery lesion.
