Abstract

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association of the level of serum sex hormone with coronary heart disease(CHD)in old males.METHODS 115 male patients with coronary angiography diagnosed by angiographically documented were divided into coronary heart disease(CHD)group and control group. The severity of coronary artery lesion were evaluated by lesion cumulative scores. The serum concentration of testosterone(T)was determined by the Chemiluminesent Immunoassay. The total plasma cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and high density lipoprotein(HDL)were estimated by enzymatic method.RESULTS The levels of serum T in CHD group had significantly lower than that in the control group(3.12 ± 1.45 vs 4.58 ± 1.12 ng/ml),t = 5.071,P = 0.000).The level of T(r =-0.447,P = 0.00)was negatively correlated with the scores of coronary artery.Multivariate Logistic analysis showed that the low serum T level was the risk factor of CHD.CONCLUSION A low serum T level may be a risk factor?for CHD.It is necessary to decrease the serum concentration of testosterone to prevent CHD.
