Association of the Level of Testosterone with Angiographic Characteristics in Men with Coronary Heart Disease

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the correlation between the level of serum sex hormone and angiographic characteristics in male with coronary heart disease(CHD).Methods: 89 male patients with coronary angiography were divided into coronary heart disease(CHD)group and the control group.The severity of coronary artery lesion were evaluated by lesion cumulative scores.The serum concentration of testosterone(T) and estradiol(E2) were determined by the Chemiluminesent Immunoassay.Results: Men in CHD group had significantly lower levels of serum T(3.93±1.31 vs 4.75±1.04 μg/L,t=3.11,P0.01) than those in the control group,but there was no remarkable difference in the levels of E2 and E2/T between two groups.There was notable difference in the level of T(P0.01) between CHD group and the control group after correcting the index for age,body mass and LDL-C.The level of T(r=-0.51,P0.01) was negatively correlated with the scores of coronary artery lesion.The level of E2 and E2/T was not correlated with the scores of coronary artery lesion.Logistic analysis showed that low serum T level,Age and high TC level were the risk factors of CHD.Conclusion: The male patients with CHD had significantly lower serum T level than the controls.The serum T level was negatively correlated with the degree of coronary artery lesion.A low serum T level may be a risk factor for CHD.
