Abstract
From the medicinal mangrove plant Hibiscus tilisceus, eleven compounds were isolated by the normal phase silica gel, reverse phase silica gel,Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography separation, and by the preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC) as well as by re-crystallization.The structures of the purified compounds were elucidated by the analysis of spectroscopic data including MS,1D and 2D NMR as coniferaldehyde (1),methyl 3,4-dihydroxybonate (2),pinoresinol (3),syringaresinol (4),gramrione (5),astragalin (6),phytol (7),cholest-5-ene-3β,7α-diol (8),cholest-5-ene-3β,7β-diol (9),cholesterol (10),and β-daucosterol (11). These compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.
