Prevention and Treatment of Complications of Plug and Mesh Tension-free Hernioplasty

Objective To investigate the prevention and treatment of complications of plug and mesh tension-free hernioplasty.Methods The clinical data of 569 cases with inguinal hernia treated with plug and mesh tension-free hernioplasty from April 1999 to August 2008 were analyzed retrospectively.Results All cases were treated with plug and mesh tension-free hernioplasty,567 cases were cured,and the cure rate was 99.64%.Complications occurred in 105 cases,including groin area pain in 9 cases,postoperative urinary retention in 17 cases,scrotal effusion in 32 cases,residual sac edema in 7 cases,wound liquefied effusion in 9 cases,groin foreign body sensation in 28 cases,wound shallow infection in 1 cases,recurrence in 2 cases(0.41%).Conclusion Correct timing of operation,reasonable surgical methods and surgical repair with a suitable material,are the key to the prevention and treatment of post-operative complications of plug and mesh tension-free hernioplasty.
