Expression and Clinical Significance of PTEN mRNA in Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Objective To investigate the expression of PTEN mRNA in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC) and discuss its significance during the tumorigenesis or progression of LSCC.Meth- ods The expression of PTEN mRNA was detected by RT-PCR in 30 cases of LSCC and in 20 cases of para-tumor tissues.Results (1) There existed significant differences between LSCC and para-tumor tis- sues for the expression of PTEN (P0.05);(2) The expression of PTEN in patients of TNMⅠ～Ⅱwas higher than TNMⅢ～Ⅳ(P0.05);(3)In the high or middle differentiation grade of the carcinoma detect- ed,the expression of PTEN bore conspicuous descrepancies to the low grade one (P0.05);(4)There existed significant differences between the expression rate of PTEN in the patients with lymph metasta- sis and those without lymph metastasis (P0.05).Conclusion The expression of PTEN has close rela- tionship with the pathology of LSCC and their own biology behaviour,PTEN gene expression may play an important role in the genesis and development of LSCC.Down regulation of PTEN mRNA may serve as an important molecular-biological indicator in dignosing and predicating the biological behavior of LSCC.
