Expressions of P53 and PTEN in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and their clinical significances

Objective To investigate the relation of expressions of P53 and PTEN with clinical histological characteristics and prognosis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC).Methods The expressions of P53 and PTEN were examined with immunohistochemical staining in specimens from 66 cases of LSCC and 36 cases of laryngeal chronic inflammatory mucous membrane(LCIMM).Results The differences of expressions of P53 and PTEN between LSCC and LCIMM were statistically significant(P0.05).In LSCC,the expressions of P53 protein in patients of stages Ⅲ~Ⅳ,with lymphatic metastasis were stronger than those of stagesⅠ~Ⅱ,without lymphatic metastasis respectively(P0.05);the expressions of PTEN protein in patients of stages Ⅰ~Ⅱ,well differentiation and without lymphatic metastasis were stronger than those of stages Ⅲ~Ⅳ,moderate to poor differentiation and with lymphatic metastasis respectively(P0.05).There was no significant correlation between P53 protein and PTEN protein in LSCC(P0.05).Conclusion The overexpression of P53 protein and lower expression of PTEN may play some important roles in the pathogenesis of LSCC.
