Clinical characteristic of essential hypertensive patients with high pulse pressure

Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristic of essential hypertensive(EH)patients with high pulse pressure.Methods:A total of 133 EH patients were recruited randomly in the outpatient department of high blood pressure of the General Hospital of PLA.The patients were divided into two groups according to their pulse pressure levels:control group(n=102),with the pulse pressure lower than 60 mmHg;high pulse pressure group(n=31),with the pulse pressure≥60 mmHg.The demographic characteristics,arterial stiffness index(ASI)and blood parameters were measured and compared between the two groups.Results:There were older age,longer hypertensive history,higher systolic blood pressure(SBP),but lower diastolic blood pressure(DBP),(P0.01 all)in the high pulse pressure group than those of control group.The ASI(P0.01)and the level of blood uric acid(P0.05)were higher in the high pulse pressure group than those of control group.Conclusion:Old age,long hypertensive history,higher SBP pressure,lower DBP,higher levels of ASI and blood uric acid may be associated with EH patients with high pulse pressure.
