Primary Study on the Correlation between Pulse Pressure and Heart Function in Old Patients With Hypertension

Objective:To investigate the Correlation between pulse pressure and heart function,especially the correlation between systolic function and left ventricular function in old patients with hypertension.Methods:Pulse pressure and left ventricular function were observed by echocardiography and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in 68 patients with essential old hypertension.Patients were divided into two groups according to mean pulse pressure.Group A had high pulse pressure.The mean pulse pressure was over 40 mmHg.Group B had lower pulse pressure and the mean e1ual or less than 40 mmHg.Results:It was found that there was positive correlation between pulse pressure and A/E ratio (p0 05) and between pulse pressure and age (p0.01).Total cholesterol(Tc),systolic blood pressure (SBP) and triglyceride (TG) were higher in patients of group A than those of patients in group B (p0。05,0。01,0。05)。Conclusion:it was suggested that left ventricular diastolic function was mainly influenced by pulse pressure in patients with essential old hypertension.
