Abstract

Metaphor plays an important role in human' s cognition of the world. As a kind of image schema, spatial metaphor constructs many abstract concepts. The present research is focused on two spatial concepts up and down and explores their prototype meanings, metaphorical extension and cognitive basis by searching them in the Brown Corpus.
