Abstract

Cognitive linguistics holds that spatial metaphor plays an important role human being's cognition and that many abstract concepts are constructed through spatial metaphor.This paper studies the data of in from the British National Corpus.The data the corpus indicate that in are projected onto nine target domains,namely,scope,time,status,manner,process,dress,occupation,material,motive and reason.
