Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between blood pressure variability and the arterial distensibility in elderly patients with essential hypertension. Methods A total of 126 elderly hypertensive patients were divided into two groups.Auto-survey atherosclerosis apparatus was applied to examine brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV).Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was examined to calculate the systolic and diastolic BP variability. Results BaPWV were significantly higher in EH+CHD group than in EH group(P0.05).DSBP-SD and 24hSBP-SD in EH patients with CHD group were significantly higher than those in EH patients without CHD group(P0.05 or P0.01).Pearson correlation analysis showed that 24 hSBP-SD,DSBP-SD were significantly related to PWV.Conclusion There was positive association between blood pressure variability and arterial distensibility in hypertension patients.
