Abstract
A new color reagent, meso tetra (5 chloro 4 hydroxyphenyl 3 methoxy) porphyrin was synthesized. Its spectrophotometric characteristics with Fe (Ⅲ) was studied. In a medium of pH 6.6 buffer and Triton X 100, the orange yellow complex of this reagent with Fe(Ⅲ) was formed. The apparent molar absorptivity of the complex was 6.6×10 5 L·mol -1 ·cm -1 (λ=446 nm). Beer's law was obeyed for Fe (Ⅲ) in the range of 0.01~7.5 μg/25 mL. The reagent has been applied to the determination of Fe (Ⅲ) in the natural water.
