Incidence of large bowel cancer in Zhongshan in 1970～1999

Objective To explore the incidence status of large bowel cancer in Zhongshan in 1970～1999, and to provide scientific information for its prevention and treatment. Methods The incidence data of large bowel cancer in 1970～1999 in Zhongshan came from Zhongshan cancer registry . Such indices as its numbers of incident cases, crude incidence rates, China- and world-standardized incidence rates were calculated and analyzed.Results In 1970～1999 in Zhongshan the male, female and both gender world-standardized incidence rates of large bowel cancer were 8.14/10 5, 6.22/10 5, 7.11/10 5 respectively. Its incident age peak was between 60 and 75 years old. And there were remarkably increasing tendency for its incidence rates during the period. Conclusion The incidence level of large bowel cancer in Zhongshan in 1970～1999 is moderate-high compared with rural pilot areas in China, and there is obviously increasing trend for its incidence rates. It suggests that its prevention should be enhanced in Zhongshan in the future.
