Abstract
Objective To explore an optimal method and time for acupuncture treatment of stroke-induced upper limb paralysis.Methods Eighty patients meeting the inclusion diagnosis were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 40 cases and a control group of 40 cases.The treatment group received long-time retention of needles in scalp points plus electroacupuncture of nerve stem and the control group,conventional acupuncture of yangming meridian points.The effect of acupuncture on upper limb function was evaluated using the simplified Fugl-Meyer motor scale as the criteria.Results There was no statistically significant difference in upper limb motor function between the two groups of patients at allocation (P0.05).There was a statistically significant difference in upper limb motor function between the treatment and control groups after one course(4 weeks) of treatment(P0.01).Conclusion Long-time retention of needles in scalp points plus electroacupuncture of nerve stem has a good therapeutic effect on early upper limb paralysis due to stroke.
