Present Situation and Protection Management of Yangtze Valley Wetland

Abstract
Based on the province-wide survey of wetland resources in Jiangsu Province in 2009, the present situation and essential characteristics of wetland resources in Yangtze valley in Jiangsu Province were analyzed form the respects of wetland types, areas, distribution and flora and fauna resources. Achievements and existing problems in protection and management of wetland resources in Yangtze valley were reviewed. Measures such as shortening legislation procedures, development of wetland protection and management plans and strengthening wetland protection in the river valley were proposed to hold back the overall trend of wetland degradation and reduction of ecological functions of the wetlands in Yangtze valley in Jiangsu, and to achieve the ultimate goal of wetland protection and sustainable development.
