Abstract

Objective To investigate the remote renal injury induced by reactive oxygen species(Ros)after liver ischemia/reperfusion and the mechanism of renal protection afforded by propofol. Methods 72 male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups. The animals were killed after 60 minutes ischemia of liver followed by reperfusion for 2 hours and 4 hours.SOD and malondialdehyde(MDA)were detected. Results In I/R group MDA level increased significantly after I/R as compared with the baseline value before liver I/R,while propofol decreased the level of MDA significantly. In liver I/R group, blood SOD activity decreased significantly after I/R as compared with the baseline value before liver I/R,while propofol increased the SOD activity. Conclusions Propofol reduces the generation of ROS during liver I/R and protects kidney against ROS-induced injury.
