Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective effects of propofol on liver ischemia reperfusion injury in rabbits. Methods A total of 21 rabbits were averagely divided into three groups at random, i.e. sham-operation (S) group, ischemia reperfusion (IR) group and propofol (PRO) group. Rabbits suffered from ischemia for 25 min and were followed by reperfusion for 120min. The liver function, the concentration of SOD and MDA of liver tissue were determined. The histopathologic changes in the liver were also observed. Results Serum ALT, AST and LDH concentrations were markedly increased after liver ischemia reperfusion. It was found that anesthesia with propofol (10 mg/kg·h-1) could decrease the leakages of liver enzymes. The histopathologic hepatic changes were significantly lessened. The concentrations of SOD and MDA also showed significant differences among the three groups (PO.05).Conclusion Propofol can protect liver from ischemia reperfusion injury to some extent.
