Abstract

Objective:To study the expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome ten(PTEN) and fragile histidine triad(FHIT) in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder(BTCC) and their clinical significance. Methods:In 62 BTCC and 13 normal bladder mucosas, the expression levels of PTEN,FHIT proteins were detected by immunohistochemical assay. Results:The positive expressions of PTEN and FHIT in BTCC were 56.5%,51.6%,respectively.PTEN and FHIT expressions in BTCC were significantly lower than those in 13 normal bladder tissues(P0.05).PTEN and FHIT expressions were both correlated with histological grades and clinical stages in BTCC(P0.05).PTEN expression was positively correlated with the expression of FHIT protein(r=0.448,P0.05).Conclusion:Lower expression of PTEN and FHIT may play an important role in the tumorigenesis and development of BTCC.Combined detectation of PTEN and FHIT can be used as a prognostic indicator of BTCC.
