Expression of FHIT and PTEN in primary hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of fragile histidine triad(FHIT) and PTEN in primary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and their relationship to clinicopathological factors.Methods Immunohistochemical(S-P) and image analysis methods were used to detect the expression of FHIT and PTEN in the 46 patients with HCC and 10 normal liver tissues.Results (1) In the patients with HCC,average optical density of FHIT and PTEN in the tumor tissue was(0.1339±1.3864) and( 0.1534±0.1562) respectively,which was significantly lower than that in adjacent non-tumorous tissue and normal tissue(P0.05).(2) The expression of both FHIT and PTEN was related to the tumor differention and thrombus in the portal vein.Conclusion (1) The lower expression of FHIT and PTEN gene protein is a frequent event in HCC.(2) The relationship between the expression of FHIT,PTEN and tumor parameters is obvious.
