Abstract
【Objective】To investigate the protein expression of the tumor suppressor gene PTEN(phosphatase and tensin homology deleted on chromosome ten) and P53 gene and their possible roles in the development and progression of bladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC).【Methods】Immunohistochemical method was used in detecting PTEN and P53 in 69 BTCC and 10 normal bladder tissues.【Results】The expression of PTEN was positive or strong positive in 10 normal bladder tissues. The expression of P53 gene was weakly positve in one normal bladder tissue and nagative in 9.Forty-six BTCC tissues were high expression of PTEN,15 positve and 31 strong positive.Thirty-nine BTCC tissues were high expression of P53,22 positive and 17 strong positive. The positive expression rate of PTEN and P53 gene in BTCC were 66.7% and 56.5% respectively. The expression of PTEN significantly decreased and the expression of P53 increased with the increment of pathological grades(P0.001).There was significantly inverse correlation between PTEN and P53 expression(P0.0001).【Conclusion】The abnormal expressions of PTEN and P53 gene may play an important role in the malignant progression of BTCC .The expression of PTEN and P53 gene may be regulated by each other.
