Relationship between the kinetic changes of high-sensitive C-reactive protein level and prognosis in patients with acute cerebral infarction

Abstract

Objective To investigate the association between the kinetic changes of high-sensitive C-reactive protein level and prognosis during the progression of acute cerebral infarction .Methods High-sensitive C-reactive protein levels of 82 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 20 healthy volunteers served as a control group were tested with immunoturbidimetric assay and were analyzed whether to correlate with severity and outcome after acute cerebral infarction. Results There was the significant correlation between high-sensitive C-reactive protein levels and severity, prognosis in patients with acute cerebral infarction. High-sensitive C-reactive protein levels in larger infarction group was higher and lasted longer than that in middle and smaller infarction groups, the difference was statistically significant (P0.01). High levels of high-sensitive C-reactive protein in larger infarction group indicated more severe neurologic functional impairment and worse prognosis.Conclusion High-sensitive C-reactive protein is a significant risk factor for severity and prognosis in patients with cerebral infarction. If high-sensitive C-reactive protein levels are high and last long,the patients with cerebral infarction have unfavourable prognosis.
