Clinical study on the efficacy of oral risperidone solution on aged-schizophrenic patients

Objective:To study the clinical efficacy and side effects of oral risperidone solution in the treatment of aged schizophrenic patients.Method:51 aged inpatients with first episode schizophrenia were randomly assigned to oral risperidone solution group and haloperidol group for 6 weeks. The efficacy and side effects were evaluated with the positive and negative symptoms scale (PANSS) and treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS).[WTHZ]Results:There was no significant difference on efficacies between oral risperidone solution group and haloperidol group. Oral risperidone solution had slinght side effects which mainly were insomnia,vomiting and nausea.The EPS in haloperidol group were serious.Conclusion:Two drugs have similar effects in the treatment of aged schizophrenia, while oral risperidone solution has slight side effects.
