Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical significance of tumor supplies group of factors (TSGF) for the response to treatment and prognosis of malignant tumors. Methods The serum levels of TSGF were assayed by spectrophotometry in 1 357 patients with carcinomas (464 initiated tumors,508 cases of objective responsed to treatment,93 non responders and 292 patients with recurrent tumors) and 134 healthy controls. Results The positive rates of TSGF value were 42 2%-88 9% at the borderline of 64 U/mL for initiated tumors.Compared with pretreatment group, the TSGF level decreased profoundly in responders( P 0 01),and obvious elevated in elapsed patients( P 0 01).At the level of 64 U/mL,TSGF indicated any cancers with a specificity of 97 0%,a sensitivity of 56 0%,a positive predictive value of 98 5%,and a negative predictive value of 38 9%.Moreover,TSGF assay was able to exclude distant metastasis and recurrence with a negative predictive value of 85 2%,a sensitivity of 69 9%,and a specificity of 89 4%.Conclusions The TSGF is an important parameter on diagnosis, monitoring response to treatment and prognosis of carcinomas, especially for predicting of recurrence or metastasis.
