Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide tablets in the treatment of essential hypertension in elderly patients. Methods 76 elder patients with primary hypertension were randomly divided into treatment group(38 cases) and control group(38 cases). In control group, patients were given irbesartan tablets( 150 mg, once a day) in fasting or preprandial state. In treatment group, patients were given irbesartan and hydrochloroth- iazide tablets(irbesartan 150 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg) one tablet, once a day in fasting or preprandial state. Treatment course was 8 weeks in both groups. Results Systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure in each group after treatment significantly improved(P0.01). Compared with control group, there was significant difference in systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure in treatment group after treatment(P0.05). Total clinical efficacy in treatment group and control group were 92.11% and 73.68% respectively, and there was significant difference between the two groups(P0.05). Conclusion Irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide tablets has better clinical efficacy than single medication in treatment of essential hypertension, which is an ideal combined medication plan and is worthy of clinical application.
