Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of treatment of essential hypertension with irbesartan tablets and low-dose hydrochlorothiazide tablets. Methods 132 outpatients undergoing essential hypertension were randomly divided into treatment group(T) with 78 cases and control group(C) with 54 cases. In group C,irbesartan tablets(150mg) once a day during the first 2 weeks. If systolic blood pressure was greater than 140mmHg and diastolic blood pressure was greater than 90mmHg at the end of the second weeks,irbesartan(300mg) once a day were added respectively to 8 weeks(8 weeks for one course). In group T,irbesartan tables(150mg) combined coith hydrochlorothiazide tablets(12.5mg) once a day during the first 2 weeks. If systolic blood pressure was greater than 140mmHg and diastolic blood pressure was greater than 90mmHg at the end of the second weeks,irbesartan(300mg) once a day were added respectively to 8 weeks(8 weeks for one course).Blood pressure,Glucose and ECG were measured. Results The blood pressure of the two groups were remarkably down, but group T is satisfactory than groups C(88.46%/75.93%),there were significant difference(P0.05).Conclusion Irbesartan combined with low-dose hydrochlorothiazide is better than singly using irbesartan in treatment of essential hypertension.
