Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of a new peripherally inserted central venous catheter method on reducing phlebitis. Methods A novel catheter method and a traditional type tube method were used in a study group and a control group(30 cases each group),respectively. In the study group, after the new catheter was successfully adopted,a new nursing method was performed. In the control group, all the methods were performed in accordance with the PICC Standard Guide. Results In the study group, the effective rate in prevention of phlebitis was 93.3%(28/30),which was higher than that in the control group(χ2=15.6,P0.05).Conclusions The new catheter method can effectively reduce the occurrence of phlebitis, prolong indwelling time of PICC,alleviate the suffering of patients, and improve the quality of nursing work.
