Expression and significance of p53 protein and P-glycoprotein in hepatocelluar carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the expression of p-gpand p53 protin in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to explore the relationship between the expression of P-gp and p53 protein . Methods Expression of P-gp and p53 protein in 37 histologically verified HCC and 19 non-HCC specimens were examined by immunohistochemical methods. Results The positive rates of P-gp and p53 protein expression were 81.08 and 64.86% respectively in HCC tissues- it`s higher than P-gp and p53 protein expression in non-HCC liver tisssues(P0.05). The expression of P-gp was related to AFP, HBV infection and distant metastasis. The expression of p53 protein was related to histological grade, local metastasis and distant metastasis(P0.05). There was positive correlation between p53 protein and P-gp expression in HCC. Conclusion The expression of P-gp and p53 protein in HCC played an important role in chemotherapy strategy , metastasis of HCC and predictor of biological behavior and prognosis.
