Abstract

Objective To study MR features of central neurocytoma. Materials and Methods MR findings in 19 cases with pathologically-proved neurocytoma were retrospectively analyzed. The patients included 12 males and 7 females, aged 11~49 with the average of 28.5 years. Results All tumors were located at the septum pellucidum between the lateral ventricles and/or the third ventricle close to Monro foramen, presenting as iso-signal on T 1WI and iso- or hyper-signal on T 2WI. Cystic degeneration, hemorrhage and calcification within the tumor were seen in most cases. The tumor showed a sharp border. Conclusion Central neurocytoma should be considered when a mass located at septum pellucidum is found in a young patient. MRI is helpful in making a preoperative diagnosis and in deciding surgical plan.
