Abstract

Objective: To explore the support efficacy of Citalopram for the treatment of chronic schizophrenia. Methods: Forty - six cases of chronic schizophrenia mainly with negative symptoms were randomly divided into combined group( treated with antipsychotics and citalopram) and control group(treated with placebo). The course of treatment was twelve weeks, the efficiency and side effects were evaluated by positive and negative symptoms scale( PANSS) and treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS) before and after treatments for 4、8、12 weeks. Results: After 8 weeks treatments, the total scores and negative symptoms scores of PANSS significantly decreased in the combined group than before treatments. Comclusion: Antipsychotics combined with citalopram should improve the negative symptoms of chroric schizophrenia. Two groups have no significant differences in side effects.
