Abstract
Objective To explore the changes of serum superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) levels in patients with essential hypertension.Method The content of SOD was determined with xanthosine oxidase method,MDA with thiobarbitone method in 40 cases of essential hypertension and 35 controls.Results In the patients,the SOD levels were significantly lower than those in controls(P 0.01) and when the blood pressure increased,the content of SOD was decreased,and there was a distinct negative correlation(r = 0.48).But MDA levels were significantly higher than those in controls(P 0.01) and when the blood pressure increased,the content of MDA was increased,and there was a distinct positive correlation(r = 0.54).Conclusion The levels of serum SOD and MDA are closely correlated to the severity of hypertension.
