Expressions of Survivin and VEGF in gastric cancer and dysplastic gastric mucosa

Objective To investigate relationship of Survivin and VEGF in gastric cancer,normal gastric mucous and dysplasia and investigate the potential pathogenesis of the gastric cancer.Methods Using the method of immunohistochemical staining,the expression of Survivin and VEGF were examined in 44 cases of gastric cancer,16 cases of normal gastric mucous and 16 cases of moderate to severe dysplasia.Results The positive rates of Survivin protein were significantly different in gastric cancer,normal gastric mucous and moderate to severe dysplasia (P0.01).The positive rates of Survivin protein were correlated with the infiltration depth,TNM staging of gastric cancer and Lauren histological type.For the VEGF expression,there was no significant difference among the different gastric tissue and gastric cancer.Positive rates of VEGF protein had significant difference in TNM stage and regional lymph node metastasis.There was a close relationship between Survivin and VEGF expression.Conclusion Survivin may be a key factor to inhibit the apoptosis of gastric cancer and play an important role in the transformation from normal gastric mucosa to precancerous lesions with gastric cancer.Survivin may be involved in the occurrence and progress of gastric cancer by depressing the apoptosis and regulating the angiogenesis.
