Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of Nexium for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). METHODS: A total of 84 cases consistent with GERD diagnostic criteria were randomly divided into 2 groups: 43 in the treatment group were assigned to receive Nexium, and 41 cases in the control group to receive omeprazole. Symptom improvement and healing of those complicated with esophagitis were observed after treatment for 4 weeks. RESULTS: After treatment for 4 weeks, symptoms like heartburn, chest pain, sour regurgitation etc. in the nexium group had a better improvement than in omeprazole group (P0.05). CONCLUSION: Nexium is a more active agent than omeprazole in treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
