Xiang-Chu Culture's Influence on Shen Congwen's Literary Geation

This paper discusses how the works of Shen Congwen were influenced by Xiang-Chu culture, which was a kind of nature environment and custom as well as a kind of historical tradition. Xiang-Chu culture, with its plentiful nature and poetic characteristics,has deeply influenced Shen Congwen in his writing.It has not only exerted a subtle influence on his life attitude and aesthetic orientation,cultivated his thinking in images and his sensibility,but also endowed him with particular sentimental and pensive temperament. His works were simple and natural in description,but permeated with romantic sentiment and mysterious atmosphere.
