The Meaning of Divinity——On “Side City”by Shen Congwen

Abstract

“West Xiang World”in the novels and proses is Shen Congwen’s main contribution to literature. “West Xiang World”has a special aesthetic value. It enables readers to know another “Life Style”and gain “new sentiment toward life”. It is a reduction of She Congwen ‘s ideal life mingling his reality with his dream.. On the one hand, he tried to save the myth of West Xiang. On the other hand, he has already predicted that it is impossible to save its historical fate in his novel. Based on “Side City”, romanticism and classicism from Sheng’s West Xiang World have been analysed in the study.
